# What Services Mode is

> Services Mode turns forms into bookings and recurring billing — it's enabled per workspace by Maxforms, not from your settings.

Services Mode is an optional extension for service businesses: instead of a form that collects an answer, you get a form that books an appointment, takes the payment, and keeps the customer. **It isn't part of any plan and there's no switch for it in your settings** — Maxforms turns it on for a workspace, so if it sounds like what you need, ask.

## What it adds

With Services Mode on, a workspace gains:

- **An Appointment Booking field.** You set the working hours, slot length, buffer between slots, how many people can take a slot, and how far ahead people can book. Respondents pick a time as part of filling in the form.
- **Recurring and invoiced payments.** The payment field gains modes beyond charge-on-submit — a subscription that bills on a cycle, or an invoice raised after you've reviewed the submission.
- **A Bookings, Customers, and Subscriptions area** in the sidebar, for seeing what's booked, who your customers are, and which subscriptions are running.
- **A self-service portal for your customers**, on its own address, where they sign in with a link and can book, reschedule, cancel, and manage their billing without going through you.

## How to tell whether it's on

Two places give it away:

- The sidebar has a **Services** entry. Select it and it opens out into **Bookings**, **Customers**, and **Subscriptions**.
- In the form builder's field picker, **Appointment Booking** is selectable. When Services Mode is off, it's greyed out and hovering it reads *Not available — Services Mode is off for this workspace*. See [Field types](/building-forms/field-types).

If neither is true, Services Mode isn't on for the workspace you're in — and because it's set per workspace, it's worth checking you're in the right one.

## How to ask for it

Email [support@maxforms.com](mailto:support@maxforms.com) from the address you sign in with, say which workspace you mean, and describe what you're trying to book or bill for. There's nothing to buy and no form to fill in — it's a conversation.

## If you're told to "enable Services Mode in workspace settings"

There's no such setting. Nothing in **Settings** → **General** turns Services Mode on or off, on any plan. If something in the product points you there, it's out of date — email support instead.
