Build Stripe invoice payment forms with billing context
Collect an invoice reference, billing contact, and payment through one Stripe-connected form. Set the amount deliberately so the response matches the balance you expect.
Separate invoice context from the amount being charged
Use a text field for the invoice number and an email field for the billing contact. A reference helps reconciliation, but it does not determine the charge.
Set How much to charge to Fixed for a known amount. Use Custom only when you intend the payer to choose an amount.
A regular payment form does not fetch an external invoice balance from its reference. If you use an invoice workflow through Services, follow that setup separately.

Configure the Stripe connection
connect Stripe and add a Payment field before publishing. Pick the intended Payment account and check the accepted methods offered for this form.
Use the payment amount settings for the amount mode, quantities, coupons, and fees.
Test the full payment journey
Submit a test using a recognizable invoice reference. Compare the charged amount, payment status, and reference before marking the invoice settled.
A response is not proof of a settled payment. Check the payment status before fulfilment and test the customer’s path after a failed payment.

Frequently asked questions
01Does entering an invoice number automatically load its balance?
No. On a regular payment form, the invoice reference is an answer field. Configure the Payment field’s amount separately.
02Where does the payment settle?
The payment is processed on your connected Stripe account. Maxforms does not hold the funds.
